Heres my idea. I have two rifles chambered for 7.62x39, a wasr-10 and a cz 527. They do a pretty good job on whitetail and the occasional coyote. Also, I have taken hog with it. The one hog that i killed weighed ~180 lbs. the cz did the job, but i didn't feel that it was of adequate power. i was using american eagle 124 grain fmj. do you think i could create a special heavy weight hog hunting load using soe heavier 175 or 180 grain bullets? and do you think it would stabilize a massive 170 grain bullet in an ak or my cz? The cz has a 1/9 twist but im not sure about the ak. what kind of velocitys could you get with them? if you could keep it up to 2000 fps then youre hitting 1700 fpe!

I wouldn't go much past 150 gns. You discovered what many know. The AK, despite its fearsome reputation, is only a merely adequate killer. Thisk of it as a 30-30 with light bullets. Finally, the AK and CZ-527 have bored in the 310-311 range. You'r only possibility would be one of the 303 bullets, and they are likely to be far too long to be usable in either rifle.

You can load the CZ-527 a little hotter than the AK. A Speer 150 over 28.5gn H335 should give you about 2200 fps out of the CZ's 18.5 inch barrel. That's about the biggest thump you can expect.

Any heavier bullet is going to eat up case capacity. If you want to try it, QuickLoad suggest 25.5gns H335 with a 180gn Sierra SP for 1975 fps. I'd work up carefully and watch for signs of pressure. 1:9 should stabilize anything you could fit in the case.

Let us know.

using a fmj on any game isn't the best way to humanely kill, use a 150 gr. soft point with good shot placement. healthy charge of fast burning powder is the way top go, 322, 4189 or 1680. not big enough case capacity to get into trouble with any of those, just leave enough room to seat the slug without compressing powder much.

colt.45: ""y'all is spelld y'all, Y'ALL"

Not where I grew up. "Y'all" is simply a contraction comprised of two words linked together.

In my part of the South, it is a discrete singe word, no contraction, and spoken as the plural of "you". It's spelled "yawl".

Maybe people on the west side of town did it your way? ;)

Hornady and Speer both make a 123gr SP, remington even makes a 125 SP tho I've never used that one. Go with a SP over those fmj's and you'll see a better knockdown. I've loaded up to 180gr bullets in one, accuracy wasn't that great and I doubt bullet performance from those 180's was that impressive at the velocities you can get out of that short case.

yep they are 154grain soft point @2,104fps made by Wolf.
Bought about 500 of them from sportsmans guide.
