I finally got my 7.62x39mm dies from Hornady today and am now trying to figure out the bullets I need. They're for my CZ 527 carbine with 1:9 rifling. I use it mainly at 100,200,300yd range and only for target shooting. I'm a little confused on the diameter of the bullet but I think I read somewhere it has to be .312. I managed to save/scrounge about 300 cases and got them cleaned but not decapped yet. What would be the best recommendation for powder/primer and bullet weight that be best for this rifle. Right now I'm down to my last box of Wolf 124 gr fmj. (I can't believe I misused my rifle with that stuff) and want to start reloading my own. Thanks

For primers, I'd look at CCI Military Large Rifle Primers.

AA1680 is THE powder for x39. I've also used RL7 when 1680 ran out.

The 7.62x39 is a .310-.311 bore in most rifles. Ruger did manufacture the first Mini-30s with a .308 bore and a tapered throat. This was for the sole purpose of unloading their left over POS .308 barrels from their failed XGI rifle. As soon as all of these POS XGI barrels were unloaded on the unsuspecting public they went to the standard .310-.311 bore.

You can safely load and shoot .308, .310 and .311 in your CZ. Your rifle will tell you which bullet dia and type it prefers in the accuracy dept. The same holds true for powder selection. All rifles are different and what works well in my rifle may not work well in yours. Only you and your rifle can find the answer to these questions.

That said, if I were to pick one or two powders to start with I would go with AA 1680 for lighter bullets and H322 for the heavier ones. Primers are a matter of preference unless you are loading Rem brass. The 7.62x39 takes a Large Rifle primer in most all brass except Rem witch takes a Small Rifle primer. I hope you ain't planning on loading any of that Wolf Steel crap.

After I began reloading and did my AR10B I realized the difference between reloads and NIB rounds, and it was a big difference. After shooting some of my .308 reloads with a couple of police snipers shooting with 4,000.00 Remingtons my shots at 300yds were tighter than theirs sold me on reloads.
I love the 527. It has a floating barrel, two position trigger, and a modified Mauser bolt and it's small compared to other rifles. Everything about it is high quality and like a "dumb-ass" I bought the cheapest bullets I could find.:banghead: I gave away the last of my Wolf ammo to some guys shooting AK's and spent about a week cleaning the 527. I even used the ultrasonic to strip the crap coating left by the Wolf ammo.
No. I will never use, buy, or reload any steel ammo again.
I believe that little carbine with the right reloads will give me consistent 1" patterns at 300 yds.

My 527 likes the 123gr Hornady SP for hunting, and the 123gr Hornady FMJ for target practice. AA1680 is the go-to powder for 7.62x39, and gives the best velocity in mine, but I get better accuracy with H335. The FMJ gives slightly better accuracy than the SP.

I've shot both under 1" at 100 yards on multiple occasions, but I suspect a quality bedding job would make that a more frequent occurance. But the accuracy is way more than adequate for hunting and I don't want to risk bubbaing my nice stock with a bedding job.

take '00' buck shot pellot (wich is 32 gage) and slug your barrel by gently tapping it in with a dowel.

you're likely going to come up with a number between .311 and .312

this will be valuable info to have if you ever want to shoot cast

I actually prefer H4198 over AA1680 for my 7.62x39 ARs and AKs. I use Sierra 125gr .311 for hunting, and Hornady 123gr for plinking. CCI small rifle primers have worked well for me without slamfire issues.
