I've got a 7.62x39mm rifle on loan to me and I would like to shoot it into ballistic gelatin. Here is a list of 'maybe' tests that I may be doing with this cartridge:

Maybe - Wolf FMJ & HP
Definitely - Hornady 110gr (or/and 123gr) V-max

What ammo would you like to see? Please just go ahead and post whatever you like and what would be useful results to the majority of 7.62x39mm owners... I will make a poll with the results in a day or so.

Thank you,

JE

Here's a vote for the 123 gr V-MAX that you mentioned. It's been available for several years and it might have solved the overpenetration problem of most 7.62x39 loadings but for some reason nobody that I know of has gel tested it. Kinda strange really. Now that we have the Wolf MC HP the need for a fragmenting bullet isn't there as much but I'm still curious as to how this Hornady bullet performs. I'd like to see it tested against typical wall construction materials also.

i agree with the above poster the wolf 154gr sp, they are the most accurate out of all the surplus ammo that i found, in both my sks and my mak-90. i would really like to see what it will do. no matter what rds you decide on i can't wait to see the results.

I have some Wolf Classic HP and some Barnual HP that I'd be glad to donate.

The Wolf Classic is different from regular Wolf HP and rumored to have superior terminal ballistics.

Save your money.
And Search the internet.
I saw a story a few months back. Thought I saved it. Can't find it.
This guy did it all.
Nice report.
I will never buy an AK.
A 30-30 has more power.

C'Habla inglesss.
I found a story on the INTERNET, a few months ago.
Someone???????????? did the gel test with various guns, bullets, er whatever..........
Lots of pictures.
Is that enough, explanation?

A 30-30 has more power

I wouldn't bet on that if I were you.

30-30 vs 7.62x39

154grn wolf

100yd ZERO = -6.8" at 200yds @1205 FTlbs
*************************
150grn Corelokt

100yd ZERO= -7.6" at 200yds @858 FTlbs
*************************
170grn Corelokt

100yd ZERO= -8.3" at 200yds @989 FTlbs
*************************

The wolf load has the same energy at 100 yds as a 170grn 30-30 bullet. These figures DO NOT take into account the rather overly optimistic factory velocities on 30-30 ammo

In fact the $4 per box wolf has almost identical energy and trajectory as the 160grn leverevolution

Ammo Weight 20"bbl

Remington
Express 170 2012 fps

Hornady
Evolution 160 2287 fps

Federal
Fusion 150 2313 fps

PMC
Bronze 150 2211 fps

Winchester
Power Point 150 2234 fps

154grn Wolf 154 2200FPS from my 18" barrel

W4, (Wally World Winchester Whitebox,) and Remington UMC are two I am interested in. I know they don't laquer up my SKS like the Russian Steel does, and I use them when I want to shoot my SKS at an indoor range that does not allow Wolf. I also save the brass when I can.

Also if you can find some Yugo boxer-primed surplus, (It comes in boxes of 40 on the stippers,) that would be awesome. Not holding my breath, though.

JE223, Tracer ammo is available in a variety of calibers from many places (Cheaper than dirt comes to mind). Armor piercing... No.

+1 for 154gr SP from WOLF.

I love this ammunition for it's sheer dead-tree obliterating goodness, I'd love to see what a SP actually does to something that resembles flesh.
