Got a quickie question...on Friday, i picked up 800 rounds of Norinco 7.62x39. I looked at the headstamp and it has the number 67 and 19 on it. I did the magnetic test and I think it is the steel core round. My question is if this stuff is corrosive? I will be shooting it out of a Norinco SKS Para. Should I shoot this? Should I clean with windex after I'm done shooting? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

I never saw any signs of corrosion after shooting quite a bit of Norinco years ago. Chrome bores and Hoppe's #9 no doubt helped to prevent problems.

Most other 7.62x39 is reported to be corrosive. Should be fine, but I'd err on the side of caution by cleaning thoroughly after shooting. Don't forget to swab out the gas system.

no, hoppe's No.9 does nothing for corrosive priming.

and the fact that the bullet is attracted to a mgent does not mean steel core, could just be a steel jacket, quite common. pull a bullet. if it is boattailed and over 1" long, it's steel core.

Some bore cleaners were made to work with corrosive ammo, others not. Hoppe's has been around a long time, but they have probably changed the formulation from time to time. If you think the ammo is corrosive, better to give it a squirt of water/window cleaner in the bore/ gas tube/bolt face while at the range. THen clean with good bore cleaner at home.

My experience is with the yellow box. Seems like it said non-corrosive, and I was young and naive enough to take em at their word. Worked out OK for me.

Either way, you will enjoy this little rifle.
