7.62x54R Hungarian light ball

How's it shoot? I have a bunch of Czech light ball that does well, and some Bulgarian Heavy ball that despite a stout kick shoots pretty good too. But it seems surplus ammo is going up in price and it might not be a bad idea to stock a little more. So I thought I would see what the general impression of Hungarian (or even Albanian) stuff is.

Thoughts?

8mm seems to be disappearing quicker, so my other option is to skip the 54r right now and get more 8mm.

I bought some of the Hungarian light ball from Century. It was real cheap, $25 for 300 rounds. I've been to the range with my 91/30 and my old M39 a couple times recently. The light ball stuff does OK, about 4moa at best. I didn't shoot very many groups so my experience is by no means definitive.
The Czech ammo with the silver tips shot noticeably better, but I only had one box of 20. I'm thinking about ordering a bunch of it.
I know what you mean about the 8mm. I bought some last year for five cents a round and wish I had bought more.

5 cents per round? Wow, most of the places that actually have it in stock are running 11-15 cents per round. Not horrible, but might be the writing on the wall that 8mm is drying up....

Actually that comes out to be 8 cents a round. But I doubt that is calculating in shipping. Whats more, Hungarian ammo comes in 440 round cans, not 300. I'm betting you got the Bulgarian light or heavy ball, which does in fact come in 300 round cans.

The shipped price of most 7.62x54R is coming out to be about 10 cents a pop for me.

My mistake, you are correct. It is Bulgarian, not Hungarian. Just got my -ians mixed up. I have no experience with Hungarian ammo. Sorry.

The 8mm was five cents a round, not the 7.62x54R, and it's long gone according to the web site.
As to shipping, Century charges a $12.95 small order fee under $500, free shipping. Seems to me to be about the best deal out there for ammo.

The Hungarian light and heavy ball shoot much better in my M91/30 than the Czech, which my gun doesn't like.

If yours shoots well with the Czech, why sweat it? Buy a case or two of the Czech, mate.

I've used 1970 and 1971 dated Hungarian yellowtips, and 1970 dated yellow with silver. I shoot 6in groups at 200 yards with the solid yellows through an m44 with a cheap 3x scope, and I think the ammo is capable of better than that, the scope kind of limits me. Chambering and extraction are both good, no problems working the bolt while keeping the rifle shouldered at all, even after 100+ rounds. I bought mine through a local store at 11.95 for 100 rounds, in paper wraps.

The silver/yellows are definitely more accurate, about a 4.5in group, but they are somewhat harder to extract after 25-30 rounds, to the point of having to bring the rifle from the shoulder to work the action. Given that the increased accuracy seems to be consistent through the several batches that I've fired, could these be the 7n1 or 7n14 sniper rounds? If not, where can I find those?

I recently saw a reference to a "11mm Vickers" being mounted on U.S, and French aircraft in WWI for anti-ballon use. Does anyone have info on that gun and cartridge they can share?
