I want to build or modify a subsonic rig on the cheap. The easiest route to go would probably be to buy a 308 Rem 770 or a Savage 111 (still need to confirm if avaiable in 1:10 twist rate).

But I alreay have seveal Mosin Nagant platforms with 1:8-ish twist rates, which is best for them slooow moving rounds. The problem is developing a safe load for the humonguous Russian case. I would rather use the x39 Soviet case.

It is not unthinkable to get a chamger adapter. I will try with the guy in Alaska. But, the extraction and ejection issue remains unresolved.

Has anyone worked out a modification to the M/N bolt face and extractor pin? What have you done about the ejector?

I don't know if that would work either.

The .308 case rim / bolt face is .473".

The 7.62x39 is .447".

Agreed. at least it is not as bad as the 0.570" of the 7.62x54R. Other folks seem to have been able to successfully modify their 308's.

Whatever route I follow, I suspect it will involve some welding and machining. I am sure I am not the first who thought of it and did something about it.
