thanks. im shooting with a finish m28/30 with iron sights.

7.62x54r? max hunting range

7.62x54R round is similar to the 308 Win, ballistically.

Your own max hunting range will be at what ever distance you can consistently keep all your shots on a 9" paper plate. That's about the size of the kill zone of a white tail.
The range will vary with skill level.

It depends on the loading and the barrel length. But thankfully a lot of the legwork has already been done. In the link below, click on the type of ammo in question and Ted has already done an incredible amount of analysis. Scroll down and you'll see he has trajectory and drop graphs for a variety of Mosins.

And he did a complete workup on a paradigm M28 with a SIG barrel, which should be virtually identical to yours. The guy is just amazing--a real asset to the Mosin community.

I don't believe he's had a chance to do the stats on the new batches of Polish hollow base, but it will be very similar to the other light ball loadings.

If you do handloads, you can compare weight and chrono velocity with the various ball loadings to get a pretty good idea of their trajectory. Though obviously the best way would be to calculate drop based on the particular bullet's ballistic co. on the standard tables.
