I have a friend that has a 200 Stevens 22-250 that he wants to trade.I am considering it,but still on the fence..I think it is a 1in12 twist, but not sure..The slow twist is the only thing I have against the 22-250,but I think them Speer 70 gr semi-spitzers may stabilize, but I'm not sure..Have any of you folks used these in 1-12,or 1-14 twist ? did they stabilize?,and if so was any accuracy sacrificed over lighter bullets? thanks

I've used them in a 1:12 twist 222 and 22-250 with good results. Shooting that bullet I took a deer at 360 yards with a 22-250.

I have band load for a Howa 1500 bolt action .223 with a 1:12 twist. While not exactly the same as the 22-250 bullet weight and twist rates are similar. I shoot a lot of 52gr, 53gr and 55gr bullets. I also shoot a 60gr Partition bullet as well as 62 and 64gr bullets but I never tried 70gr bullets. Not only is the weight high but those bullets are long and the length of the bullet can effect stability more than the weight.

I may try to deal him out of it then.He was asking about a Remington 7600 I have, but I hope he understands I can't trade even..I may just try to buy it from him if he don't want to give me fair boot ..I almost ordered them same bullets for my 223,but bought a couple boxes of 63 gr Sierra SMP instead because I found them in town. They are pretty stubby and would probably shoot just fine in a slow twist, but I would like to go as heavy as possible to take advantage of the 22-250s capacity.

Ive shot the 70s out of a 1-12 .223 shot fine at 100 took a deer with pretty much every bullet after that. Also the savage/stevens are so cheap and easy to rebarrel if you dont like it you can go to any other short action cal that fits the bolt.face.

Used the 70's out of a 225 win savage 340v 1:14 twist.
No keyholes, fairly accurate out to 100 yds. Didn't develop loads to far. Picked a middle of the road load & made up a handful. Reminds me I need to get back on that project. I'd like to bust a deer with that gun/bullet combo!!!

My Ruger 77V .22-250 14 twist shot the 70 gr Speer semispitzer accurately to 200 metres.
But since I am not a deer hunter, I stuck with the 52 gr SMK and 50 gr RP PowrLokt.

Thanks folks,I met up with him today, and we couldn't strike a deal..He only offered me $50 boot on my 7600,so I turned him down, and offered to buy it,but he is at $350,.I might wait a couple weeks, and ask him again..It only has a Simmons ProHunter Chinese scope,so I would hate to pay any more than $285..

I use the Sierra 63's in my M700 .22-250. I run them over 36.0gr H380 @ 2.235"oal. The run ~3,500fps and shoot sub MOA from my 1/14"twist. They also shoot as good as anything from a Rem Mod-7in .223 w/1-12" twist.
Every deer I've shot with it has died forthwith.
I prefer them to any .243 I've ever shot.

Nosler makes heavy and TUFF for exactly that, I'm not sure how easy they are to find or the retail on em, but you should check em out! 64 gr bonded solid base. They list 1:14 twist on it so even if you have the slow twist you'll still be cookin. They show blc2 getting accuracy at 3300. Just found these recently and they get great reviews from what I can find. Sierra also shows a 63 smp for all twists. Hornady offers a 60 gr hp, Speer's 70 was tested by hodgdon in a 14 twist but guesstimate 3200 fps at 75degrees Fahrenheit and JBM puts you at 1.020 for stability and you should be trying for at least 1.3 and I personally aim for at least 1.6 or better so that 10degrees or colder hunting conditions don't cause it to go all wonky before it hits the target.

Depends on how used it is and how good of friends you two are, brand new no scope I see tags for $369 (multiples of 3 anyone?). New savage axis runs about $350. Thoughts to think about. If you do pick one up and get a good load going, let us know how it goes!

I have little doubt I could get it from him now,and have a lot less in it,because he is wanting a 243 for his boy,and I just got a 2 week old 243 axis with bipod, cheap scope, and sling yesterday for cheap($415 for it,and a HandiRifle).I thought about calling him,and trading, but Even though the Axis is less of a gun than the 110 style Stevens,I would rather have the 243 caliber..So I'm on the fence, but will probably keep the 243..
