Finally!

The changes:
Brux Match Light Varmint Barrel (with better crown, 1:10 twist)
Trued Action
2.75lb trigger (down from about 4.25)
With all the metal wrapped up in a coyote tan.

She gained some weight with the new barrel, coming in at 14lbs, plus or minus a few ounces.

Next upgrade will be the scope, from bushy to USO. It'll be OD to match the stock.

Without further adieu, here are some pics. I'll take some better ones soon.

Thanks to everyone that gave me their inputs

Very nice!! Those Seekins rings look cool painted to match the receiver and base. Good color choice too! Any plans for a DM bottom metal set up?

thank you sir

I haven't given much thought to a DM setup actually. I guess I haven't really run into any practicality issue that's made me want one yet. Other than maybe an easier way to pack the ammo around. but as always, I'm open to suggestions!

More than that though, I need to prioritize the money towards a new scope I feel. I was a little disappointed with the diagnositc report the smith sent back with this one :( it's a fine scope, but maybe not up to the task of this rifle.

it's a fine scope, but maybe not up to the task of this rifle

BUT, you'll never really know until you try it...shoot the hell out of it, then decide if you really need to drop 2 grand into a new
scope

unless its a bushnell banner or another of their chinese lines, Bushnell makes a solid quality scope...I have several elite 3200s and they work awesome

I agree pikid89, I really like bushnell products in general actually and this 6500 elite is pretty nice.

However though, looking at my log book I've put about 1,000 handloaded, premium rounds down the rifle and past 600 yards have had less than satisfaction. I figured at the price point of the scope with this many features that it couldn't be tracking 100% perfect all the time, and some of the data back from my smith correlates to some of the trends in my book. Solid scope that just leaves a bit to be desired in tracking.

Obviously there are a lot of variables once you start talking 800+ with a .308, but if I can eliminate a few I can control in a scope, I will.

understandable...i (incorrectly ) assumed that you had just gotten the rig
i would say you could safley figure that you need a new scope after 1K+ rounds down the tube

no worries, I probably should've figured it out sooner actually huh!:)

thanks again

1K rounds are all scopes are good for these days??:D

My Bushnells have all tracked perfectly, plus the Elites have a lifetime warranty.

Nice stick by the way!!

thanks JD! I've already emailed bushnell about that lifetime warranty to see if they will take the scope back to give it what it needs. we'll see what they say.

I will, nonetheless, use it as an excuse to move to USO :)

Man, it's about time. That rifle came out looking nice. Is that an HSP stock? I like that barrel profile too. It looks like you should be able to get a couple of set backs out of it, so you really need to shoot the snot out of it.

If you start looking around for a DM setup, just make sure that it's compatible with Accuracy International mags.

Which USO are you considering? I've been hearing the call of S&B lately, but I'm trying to resist.

thanks TonyAngel! I think it turned out real nice, but for some reason those pictures make it look almost biege on my monitor... I think this picture is closer to the actual color. The stock is HSP, I believe the model is pst025, I like it a lot. The barrel is way beefier than the other one though, the stock has a huge channel and it still just barely free floats this beast!

I know what you mean about hearing the call. I'm looking at USO's SN3 (tpal). I just can't get over how many features you can customize with them. Plus olive drab from the factory would line right up with the color scheme I have going on  ... Which S&B are you looking at?

I will begin shooting the snot out of it shortly. Just a little load development to do, but my standards are low. If I can average (at 100yds) .6moa or under and get my velocity 2700 or above, I'll be happy to start my long range stuff again.

For those following along, bushnell got back to me. They would like me to send the scope in so they can take a look at it. I probably will once my USO is on the way in the future.

kis2, I don't know if this is your first semi custom build or which reamer your smith used, but I'd suggest pretty much throwing your old load data out the window and starting completely from scratch. If you have old ammo laying around, don't shoot it until you confirm what a safe load is in your new rig.

If you don't have a method of determining where your lands are, I'd suggest getting one. With my first semi custom build, the chamber was so much tighter than stock that I was able to use almost 2 grains less powder to get where I wanted to be in terms of velocity. Not trying to get preachy bud, just a heads up.

As for the S&B, I'm looking at the PM II 5-25X56. I just don't know which reticle I want. I hope I can make up my mind. The rimfire benchrest season is almost over and I'll have to dust the cobb webs off of the .308.

Would you believe it's easier to shoot a .308 MOA at 300 yards than it is to do the same at 50 with a .22, when the wind is blowing?

Anyway, congrats on the rifle. It looks killer.

thanks for the heads up, I've put a few rounds together, starting at 41 grains and going up to 42.5. 41 was about middle of the road in hornady's book and is BELOW the recommended starting point from hodgdon, so hopefully it'll be good.

I've not yet taken the time to find where the lands are, but I loaded these round to 2.810, and they chamber with no problem. I think I'll see how this initial work up goes, and go from there.

I would absolutely believe your statement about the .22! sounds entertaining at the very least.

I've heard good things about the P4 (and p4 fine) reticles from S&B, make sure you consider those!

thanks again
