Any one have an easy way to replace a 700 firing pin with tools one would have around the house?

bootlace and a dime are all you need...

put the sear/cocking piece under your bootlace, pull it and twist so the pin goes into the cocked notch, put the dime in the slot, and unscrew it. knock out the roll pin, and you're all apart.

careful of spring pressure - there's lots there and an ill-advised moved will launch your firing pin spring.

dakota,

Thanks for the info. (I wish I had known this before I bought TWO 700 firing pin tools from Brownells. Good grief.)

Good to know, though.

The knock out the roll pin is the hard part. Put a dime in it, un screw... OK. But you have to push down more to expose the roll pin, was looking for an easy way to do that.

well... compressing that spring enough to get the pin exposed is difficult, but you can do it w/ a little muscle.

i finally broke down and bought the possum hollow tool. all it does is compresses the spring enough to expose the pin - but it maintains control so after you get it taken apart, there's no fear of flying parts. it is easiest to use it, but short of laying out the $10 or so for it (its the wait, not the money... i know - been there many a time), a block of wood and some determination will substitute just fine.

the pin doesn't fit that tight, relying more on friction from the spring than a tight fit in the hole to hold it in place.
