Is there any difference?

I am about to use up my IMR 700x, and move to an 8lb jug of Hodgdon 700X.

Can anyone say definitively whether or not there is a noticable difference between the two? Should I work up a new load for 207-gr LSWC .45s? Or use the same charge I have been using with the IMR?

Most burn-rate charts show only IMR 700X - I remember seeing one where both were listed, right next to each other, but can't find that chart today...

TIA

I've only seen IMR 700X. If your going to change manufacturer of powder and it has the same name, it is advised that you do your load testing for it. Because its different powder. Yes may have same charistics as the other but its made from a different machine and lot number.

Hodgdon either owns IMR or distributes it. It is one and the same.
Go to hodgdonreloads.com & see.

Hodgdon redid their product lines last year, leaving IMR with a future for only rifle powder. The handgun and shotgun powder that will be produced has been labelled for Hodgdon.

Hodgdon is moving all of the non-rifle powders off the IMR line to the Hodgdon brand. At least the ones that they didn't discontinue. (moment of silence for PB, 7625, 4756, and 4759.) Powders are the same, but the labels are different.

The names have been changed to protect the innocent.

You gotta be old to get that!!

I, too, thought PB was no more, but looking at the Hodgdon site they now list it among the Hodgdon pistol/shotgun powders, along with 700-X and 800-X. Maybe they didn't discontinue it, just re-branded it. Don't know if the other three are truly gone.
