Ive decided on the 270 win what is a good rifle in the 750 range I kinda like the Rem XCR but not sure how much they are

Have you considered a Ruger 77? Great rifles and well within your budget. Probably the best scope mount system out there.

Per Winchester the .270Win version comes with a 22" barrel and will be a bit out of your price range (MSRP $1200, figure $1000 or so street price).

It seems you are fairly picky on your criteria. I suggest you go over to budsgunshop and look around. Find a few options that you would be willing to buy, and then ask which of that group is preferred. That way we know what you are considering. Buds isn't always cheapest and they don't always have everything, but they are a great one stop shopping site to give you a good representation on price and availability.

T/C Venture camo/SS with 24" barrel, integrated scope mounts and within your price point.

I will say eliminating all 22" barrel options eliminates all Savage options I know of in .270 Win. While I do not own a Savage at present I can attest that my father's 116 in .300 Win. Mag. was holding 1 1/2" groups consistently at 200 yds. Not bad for a guy with 64 year old eyes peering through tri-focals.

Something to consider, a Stevens will run less than $350 leaving a good deal more for optics. If you had budgeted $150 for a Bushnell you could opt instead for a Leupold VX-3 and keep your budget intact.

I wouldn't give $750 for a box full of Remingtons and Weatherbys.

If my budget was $750, I'd get a Browning X-bolt Hunter....or the Winchester.

Abel I once had a Browning A bolt in 7 mag it was a great gun i just dont see a x bolt with 24 barrel

I really like the new Winchester M70s. I have a 2008 featherweight in .30-06 and it is great. A Ruger or CZ would also be good choices.

Ditto. A few weeks ago I saw online an old, classy 70's Ruger 77 in .270 with a scope for $349.99. It was in a pawn shop in Plano, TX if memory serves.

I like the new Winchesters a lot. The Stainless or Featherweight 270 will be 22". You can get the Sporter with a 24". I wouldn't fret 2" either way. If you must have 24" get it is a magnum where you can use the extra barrel.

Ruger would be my 2nd choice, but once again only 22"barrels unless you move up to magnum chamberings.

I'm thinking Tikka T3 Hunter like one of these: http://www.ozarkguns.com/rifles/tikka/tikkat3hunter.htm Yeah, I know the barrel is 22 7/16" - but nice rifles built specifically around the 30-06 action (parent of the 270). In your budget range, and a smoother bolt is hard to find. It will be a tack driver

It's big brother (Sako 85) is on the order of $1,700. But they do share some similarities.

Tikka would have been my top choice for the full budget as well but the 24" barrel requirement gave me pause. More refined than the new Winchesters and an outstanding bargain.

Truth is, for a hunting rifle shooting inside 300 yds. nearly any rifle in a box will do but there's something to be said for one you enjoy.

I think that if you were going with a 25-06, the 24" barrel would be a more important feature. The X-bolt Hunter in 25-06 does have a 24" barrel. But, as they say, the heart wants what the heart wants.

TC Icon

I just got a TC Icon in 270, stainless allweather camo. It delivers. I have shot some half inch groups with it.
I had a 700 pss or whatever with the heavy barrel in 308. It would only shoot decent groups if you loaded the cartridges too long for the magazine. This was after a trigger job, recrowning, and glass bedding. I figure if remington wants that much freebore let them sell their crap to someone else.
I bought a PBR (Winchester Model 70) rifle with the heavy barrel, Inch and a half was it's best.
Love the TC Icon. The Icon has the scope bases machined on the action and pillar block stock. I started out looking at the Venture. The bases and stock made me want the Icon.

I agree that the Tikka is an outstanding bargain, lightweight and are good shooters, but "more refined" ??? I've had a couple of Tikkas and would highly recomend them for someone wanting a working gun where looks didn't matter. Their plastic trigger guard, magazines and space age looks function fine, but they are simply not in the same league with the classic looks of the blue/steel CRF rifles in either the Featherweight or Supergrade versions.
