77gr match king

I've never loaded any of these bullets to AR-15 mag-length before
and i plan to start as soon as midway gets my order to me lol. now i'm wondering witch powder to buy? any tips on what you've had good luck with would be very helpful,thanks in advance

Can't go wrong with Reloader 15 or Varget. I like RL15 over Varget because it meters better, burns cleaner, and is easier to find in stock. My 2 cents. Matt

Overall length to fit your magazine is 2.260" but the hollowpoint tips vary a little so I make sure that the longest loaded round is 2.260" or a little less.

One thing to be aware of is that with the Varget and near Max loads, the long 77 grainer at 2.260 COAL will be compressing the powder. This is because the long shank will be down in the case much further than say a 55 or 62 grain projectile.

On the other hand, I get best accuracy from an AR with starting to midrange loads of Varget, when deep-seating those 75 and 77 grain bullets to fit the magazine.

What do you find with Varget in that application?

You can't go wrong with Varget, Reloder 15 or IMR 4895. I use all three powders with good results.

One thing to be aware of is that with the Varget and near Max loads, the long 77 grainer at 2.260 COAL will be compressing the powder. This is because the long shank will be down in the case much further than say a 55 or 62 grain projectile.

I get outstanding accuracy and consistency in .223 (AR15) with compressed loads, namely 25.0gr of Varget and the 77gr SMK. This is with Winchester brass and CCI 400 primers. In fact, the load I mentioned is very popular with high power service rifle folks.

I am running 23 grains of varget and maybe just a slight crunch, if I do not use a drop tube. It does not hurt to compress varget much more, but one should be aware that bullets may creep out against neck tension alone if not watched after. I am seating to 2.255 COAL in my process, with no crimp, even though the OTMs have a cannelure.

Yesterday, I picked Varget up locally for $26.50 in Dallas. So much better than $32 I was paying.

Primers were still $38 for 1000.
