Ok, so I know you can take a .308 and size it down to a 7mm-08 case. Can you take a 7mm-08 case and size it up to a .308? I'm assuming you can, but what would be some reservations of doing that?
Sure, you can do it using a .308 neck sizing die or a .308 FL sizing die. It's not that great a step (compared to .243 to .308) so doing it in a single pass is easy enough as long as you lube the inside of the case necks and use a tapered expander button.
jwroland, when necking the case up expect the case neck to shorten. I form 308 W out of 30/06, seems like a lot of work but there are 308W chambers with large chamber necks, A few of these chambers are in bench rest rifles that shoot one hole groups with loose necks, after tightening the necks? No improvement but on the Internet, it is immediate neighborhood acceptance.
Main reason I was asking, was just wondering. Second was because it's hard to find the brass I like right now for my .308, but have a bunch of 7mm-08 in my garage and have never had the rifle for it. Just pickups from hitting the range trying to find free brass.
