7mm Rem vs. .300 Win. Magnums

The 7mm has the most very low drag bullets made for it , with G7 drag coefficients below 1.0 , more than any other caliber & so are better at cutting the wind & easier to hit with at longer ranges. Check out Brian Litze article in the Berger's reload manual on G7 BCs. There aren't any .30s with a drag factor below 1. Now this is from memory & therefore is not as precise as Litze article. Read it & you will choose the 7mm REM mag
Sierra recently came out with a 183gr bullet with (they claim) a BC of .707(!)

If its a belted magnum you want, I'd say the 7mm Rem Mag is your huckleberry. You can get all kinds of great factory loads or handload it to your hearts desire. It is easy to shoot, will respond well to tuning if you get a factory rifle, and flat kills deer/elk. I love the 300WM too, but could never see any advantage over a 7mm mag "myself". I also love the full length RUMS, but finding brass is a pain nowadays. Also, unless you ant to kill elk over 700yds away, your run of the mill 7mm Rem Mag is just fine as is. Good luck to you.

I'm not even acquainted with the bullets you mention ,thanks for setting me straight . Now I have options for my 300 weatherby if any of those are hunting bullets which is what the OP was going to use the new rifle for. Thanks again I'm checking those out

I am quite pleased with my Savage LRH in 300 WM. As stated loading is a breeze by neck sizing and shoulder bump. Being a loader gives you parameters that factory ammo cant and is a plus for any caliber. Choose what you like and enjoy the ride.:thumbup:
