It doesn't matter how old you are, you can defend yourself with a firearm.

84-year-old homeowner shoots intruder
http://www.wmcstations.com/Global/story.asp?S=5933859

Memphis police are investigating a home invasion that ended in a shooting.

Police say 84-year-old Willie Hancox called 911 around two Friday afternoon to say that he had shot an intruder.

Hancox says he fired two shots, hitting an intruder twice in the head.

Hancox says he is sick of the crime in his community.

"He said if they come in the door, I'm not gonna let them kill me and he meant that," says neighbor, Dorothy Dickerson.

Dickerson lives across the street and looks after Hancox.

Dickerson adds, "I say God is good, cause they had no business in there, and whoever did that got what they deserved. And, I say it in front of they face, not behind they back and I mean it."

Dickerson's sentiment is shared by most neighbors.

"He did the right thing," says neighbor, Markel Dickerson. "People that's law abiding people is getting tired of being pushed around by the thugs and thieves and dope dealers."

That's why Mr. Hancox had a gun, one his sons recently tried to take from him.

"We came over here that Saturday morning he said, hey, where's my gun, I need it back. I told him dad, you dont' really need a gun in this house." says Jake Hancox.

Jake Hancox says after speaking with his brother, the two decided to give the gun back to their father.

Now, both brothers are glad they listened. Jake Hancox says that the situation could have easily ended the other way around.

"Maybe somebody looks at the situation here and they might not do it," says Hancox.

It's a message homeowners hope criminals hear as loud and clear as a gunshot.

The intruder is listed in critical condition.

"I told him dad, you dont' really need a gun in this house." says Jake Hancox.

Well, well, where have I heard this sentiment before? Oh, that's right, the average gun grabber who insists you're safer without them. Except, of course, in this one case. This one they'll just let slip by. Sure.

What exactly did he get shot with, a .22?
Whatever it was, it stopped the robbery. I know, anything from a .38 on up would have been bettter than a .22 but it worked and he didn't kill the guy.
I just hope the guy doesn't come back for revenge.

I know some people probably think you don't need a gun, just get bars on the windows to keep people out.

In the report that ran on another station you could see that he pried the bars off the window to get in.

Another case of a gun proteccting an innocent victim from a criminal. Without a gun, not many 84 year olds can protect themselves from a younger, stronger, and faster attacker.

Guy prys bars to gain access to dwelling? Sounds like a certified break-in to me. Criminals take note.....you take your life in your hands when you break into peoples homes.......Their are zillions of other occupations with better risk/reward ratios. Check em out before its too late for you.

If I were that guy, I would be mighty pissed at my son who tried to take the gun away from me for my own good.

Good Shot

Woman shoots carjacker in Two Notch Wal-Mart parking lot

(Columbia, SC) - Authorities say one of the Midlands' Most Wanted was taken into custody over the weekend after an attempted armed robbery Saturday around 9:45 p.m.

Capt. Joseph Pelicci of the Richland County Sheriff's Department says the suspect, Harold Jeffcoat, was wanted for several armed robberies.

Investigators say Jeffcoat walked up to the victims in parking lot of a Wal-Mart on Two Notch Road just as they were trying to get in their car. Officers say he pulled a gun on the couple, and that's when they one of the victims pulled their own gun from the glove compartment and fired at Jeffcoat.

Pelicci says Jeffcoat fled and deputies later caught him at the Providence Northeast Emergency Room, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the buttocks.

Jeffcoat is being held at the Richland County Detention Center on a charge of armed robbery $200,000 bond and is expected to face additional charges.

Would-be carjacker is shot in parking lot of Wal-Mart; police link him to string of robberies

Police are indebted to a woman who shot an armed carjacker in a Wal-Mart parking lot Saturday — a suspect in nine other armed robberies, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Tuesday.
Harold Levar Jeffcoat, 29, was arrested Sunday at Providence Hospital Northeast after seeking treatment for a gunshot wound in his buttocks.
Police said a man was shot as he attempted to rob a couple getting into their car outside the Two Notch Road Wal-Mart about 9 p.m. Saturday.
The male victim, whose identity wasn’t disclosed, told police the attacker pushed a gray pistol into his stomach and demanded the keys to the car.
The unidentified woman reached into the car and pulled a pistol from the glove box, according to a sheriff’s report. She fired five shots at the attacker, who dropped his pistol as he ran away. He fled in a burgundy Buick.
“We’re kind of hailing (the man and woman) as heroes,” Lott said.
He said police don’t encourage people to go out and “just start shooting,” but they do encourage people to protect themselves.
Jeffcoat, who is accused in 10 armed robberies in Richland County and Columbia in less than a month, has an arrest record dating back 12 years.
Jeffcoat, of Palmetto Drive in Columbia, is charged with:
• Nine counts of armed robbery
• One count grand larceny motor vehicle
• One count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to information from the Columbia Police and Richland County Sheriff’s departments
Lott said more charges are pending.
Jeffcoat is accused of robbing several businesses and individuals between Dec. 19 and Jan. 13, and was the Midlands Most Wanted in The State newspaper Monday.

We already have the Walmart thread somewhere. Hope the old geezer re-writes his will and removes his son's.
