I noticed this awhile back with my 870HD barrel. The magazine cap detent and magazine cap spring are missing. I recently switched the +2 extension to a normal magazine and noticed it. The cap stays on, but it will come loose after 5-10 rounds which in turn allows the barrel to come loose.

Do I need to send this to Remington, can I fix it myself, or do I need to not worry about it?

Most any 'smith should be able to fix it for you without having to send the barrel off in the mail. Parts are not terribly expensive. There's a particular staking tool necessary to do the job that actually costs more than the parts, last time I looked at Brownell's.

Note that some transitional Express barrels were made without the spring and detent installed but with the hole in the barrel ring as the transition was made to the new mag cap detent system (and mag tube dimples). Newer Express barrels don't even have the hole.
