I suspect that someone is hoping to get it "off the books", probably not the best of ideas though.

If it's the one I looked at a couple of days ago, it appeared to me the receiver had been chopped at the back and had therefore been rendered a 'non- gun.' Had a lot number scrawled on the side of the receiver, 151 or something like that?

I bought an 870 of the same vintage and in better condition for $69 at a pawnshop.

I guess buying that one off Ebay may be cheaper than ordering parts from brownells.
