Hello all. Just bought a Remington 870 Tactical Magnum, and was wondering how do I tell if it has a choke, and what choke would that be.

Thanks

Manufacturer date should be identifiable on Remington's web site. If memory serves me right, Remington will have the man date coded in the serial number and will tell you how to decifer it.

"...it says...cyl..." Hi. That'd be Cylinder choke. As in none. You can either have RemChokes installed or just buy another barrel with 'em. An 870 barrel doesn't have to be stamped 'Remington' either. There are lots of good aftermarket barrels for 870's.

The only way to find out for sure the 'born on' year of any 870 is to call Remington at 1-800-243-9700 during business hours (NC). Go through the phone tree and talk to a staffer, give them your model number (870) and serial number and they can look it up. There's no posted list anywhere, for whatever reasons.

Some say just use the barrel codes, but there's no guarantee your gun has its original barrel or that the barrel and the gun were made in the same year if it is the original barrel. Go by the serial number if you really want to know.

Thanks for the info guys. Knowing the "born on" date is really not that important, was just a little curious. I bought the thing off a friend of mine for $300, he never put a round through it...I'm definitely going to put some rounds through it :)
