870 express or bps

is there anybody that cant help me choose between a remington 870 express and a browning bps. whats the pros and cons for each one

IMO the Browning is a better product. The 870 is certainly a good firearm also.

I'd recommend the one that fits you better.

I would choose the Browning BPS. I had a Remington 870 Express that I bought new. Although it was reasonably priced, I didn't think the quality of the gun was very impressive. I would prefer to spend my money on an older Remington 870 Wingmaster than on a new 870 Express. The Browning BPS seems to have a good reputation although I've never owned one.

Both are solid desings. The Remington has seen more use and has earned a solid reputation but I think the BPS may be at least it's equal. The BPS will cost a bit more and will likely be better finished. The BPS is bottom eject with a tang safety which makes it pretty ambidexterous.

I'm more accustomed to the 870 and prefer it mainly because of familiarity. I've owned a couple of BPS guns in the past and liked them well enough. 2 things that may be a negative to some prople on the BPS is that it is Japanese made and they are quite bit heavier than an 870. Others could care less about that.

In a nutshell both are quality guns. I'd decide which features were most important to me.

If it's an older Wingmaster, maybe. Otherwise if i had to choose between your two options, I would pick the BPS. Better resale value, and better quality in my opinion.

If fit and finish is your main concern, the BPS hands down. It is a "nicer" gun. It is heavier, fits totally different, and has much different controls than the 870, though. Either one will last several generations.

I prefer the ergonomics of the Remington - side eject and not having to load thru the magazine. I don't care where the safety is, or where a gun ejects, as long as it isn't straight up and back. If an Express had an issue I have full confidence in my ability to fix it. I do believe the current level of finish is better on a BPS, and there is a price difference that goes with that. A BPS is as well designed and built a pumpgun as has ever been made in my opinion. I had three that never missed one beat thru hell or high water. But, they also feel totally different than a Remington, to me. Reach feels longer, but if you measure it, it isn't. Weight difference isn't as much as it feels like, but the BPS is heavier. Whichever one feels best to you, would be your best pick. Either one should outlive you.

You know they still make 870 Wingmasters (or did the last time I checked) which would be a much more fair comparison to the Browning BPS.

An 870 is built like a Ford pickup. It's been working very well for a long long time. The BPS is more like a Lincoln Town car. Parts and accessories are cheaper and much easier to find for the 870. I have an 870 that's been running perfectly for over 28 years.
