I have an older wingmaster that had the old style carrier without the flex tab
I replaced it with the new flex tab carrier. Do I need to replace the slide assemby(that the bolt rides on)?

I don't know for sure,my shop manual shows relief cuts on the rear of the slide block but does not explain them.If you buy the conversion kit it also incudes a new bolt with a bolt shell clearance cut that addresses feeding problems related to a carrier rise feeding problem.

Put a dummy round in and make sure not to push it past the shell latches so that it popsup between the carrier and bolt then see if you can clear it by pumping briskly.

Thanks for the replys. I don't have a dummy round, but I may try it with a live round next time I take it to the range. Should be fine to do with the saftey on?

When I had Wilson Combat do the Wilson Combat Steal on mine they install flexi-tab parts. They said that there are three parts involved in kit. Bolt, Carrier and Elevator with the three sided cut-out to allow riding over any shell stop jumps.
I've alway's cut a slot in my Elevator so I could push a shell back in mag past shell stops.

I just thought of this- I have a newer 870 express that came with the flex tab. I'll just dissasemble them and compare parts. I could modify the older parts(maybe), to match the newer style. This will be a good weekend project. If I screw it up too badly, I guess I'll be buying the correct upgraded parts.

flextab mod

Copying express will work good for carrier and bolt but elevator is a little harder but doable. That part is not very expensive new from Remington.

I have already purchased and installed the carrier assembly. I'm wondering about the slide and the bolt. I cannot find a part called the elevator. The flex tab cutout is in the carrier. I wish I could find a parts breakdown with the correct names (or any parts breakdown at all)

The carrier is the correct term for what some folks are calling the "elevator" in the Rem 870.It is called this in the exploded view in the Numrich Arms catalog and in Jerry Kuhnhausens shop manual. The other two parts of the Flexi-Tab conversion kit are the slide assembly(also called the slide plate or slide block in Kuhnhausens book) and the bolt(or bolt body in the shop manual).

XM21 is absolutly right I've just got in the habit of calling the carrier an elevator because it is called that in a lot of guns. Then I call the Slide assembly the carrier because it carries the bolt like most other carriers. When I order parts I always look up the correct parts names so everone is reading from the same page. I'm sorry I haven't been doing it here and from now on I will.
