Would anyone know if I need to purchase a special tool to change the forend on an 870? I am going to try putting the shorter tactical forend on the gun.

Thanks.

Dave,

A "special" tool is often included when you buy a new forend. Failing that, the slide assembly (the flat part that the bolt sits on) can be used to remove the forend nut.

I've always just used a long screwdriver and went slow twisting that nut that holds the wood on, but Ive been lucky so far. Brownells sales a tool just to remove that nut, I think its only about 10 bucks whereas a new forearm would cost me more. There I guess I talked myself into it.

I just used a piece of scrap flat steel stock I had laying around. Needed to grind/file just a hair off, but was a tight no-slip fit, which is really the main concern.
