In preparing to install a new SpeedFeedIII stock on my 870 I ran into a common problem. The stock is not a problem but the forend nut. This is a hard “nut” to crack with standard tools. Screw driver? Nope! Tire Iron? Too crude. Order a specialty tool? Too expensive & it would take longer than I’d like for it to get here. Piece of 1” ID galvanized steel pipe? With a wee bit of modification was just right.
I cut the end of the pipe so that it left 2 tabs to match up with the notches in the forend nut. I locked the pipe in the vice then slid the forend over it and I was able to by hand unscrew the forend nut. When the new stock comes in I just reverse it and I’m done.
Total cost; about $2.25 and 20 minutes of time.
I hope this helps anybody with limited tools restock their 870. If anybody wants to see I’ll post a picture in a few days. Maybe with the new stock.

Had same prob and came up with the same result, making tool to fit nut.
Had one that my local dealer did for me also , at no cost just got nut loose

It arrived

Without shooting it my conclusions are;
forend- don't like it I'm gonna wait and get an overmolded Hogue
Stock- me likee, pistol grip is nice & fat, LOP is about perfect for me:D
4 rounds of speedfeed- useless as mamiries on a bull, 2 on each side
and I can easily see how they would distort rounds stored there.
It appears to swing nicely but in the spirit of BA/UU/R I'm going to try and smoke a few clays this weekend and maybe make some pumpkin puree.
