870 Handling Question

I have a couple a question to pose about the handling of my new 870. It's not my first pump shotgun (actually, it's my third), but all the same, I'm going to ask.

The thing is the safety. I'm left handed, and the safety is very awkward. The easiest way to diasble the safety is to reach though the trigger guard with my index finger and push it. Obivously, this is NOT an acceptable way to go.

The next best thing is to reach under with my middle finger, but this greatly disrupts my firing grip. Any advice? Can I get the safety flipped?

Newer 870's safeties cannot be reversed without some gunsmithing.

However, you can simply buy a left-hand safety and install it.
