So im trying to change out my J lock saftey on my 870 and notice it doesnt have a ball bearing. Can I use a BB or something? Can I order it somewhere? does anyone have one they would like to send me?
Brownells sells them. Part # 767-232-230. Cost is about $4.00.
I've noticed on my two 870 Express shotguns Remington doesn't use a ball bearing but a small plunger with one end radiused about the same as a ball bearing. My older Wingmaster, however, uses a ball bearing.
When I change them out, I prefer to use the original length spring as well as the ball bearing detent. The safety just feels more positive to me. I've had folks tell me they used the plunger and spring that were in there with the J-lock safety button and just swapped out the safety button itself, but I'd rather not do it. The parts are about $5 each from Brownells, not that much of a big deal.
