is it true that you cannot put a Mag. Ext. on the new 870's?

If so why the hell did they do that for??

thanks:uhoh:

Why they did it is debatable but they haven't provided a good enough excuse to me for voluntarly surrendering our rights. New ones do have dimpled mag wells and the dimples can be removed in a variety of ways. I have had sucess with the socket method. Try searching dimple removal on the firing line.

jYM: If you're uninitiated, go here www.thefiringline.com and search the shotgun forums for "dimple" and "870." You'll get plenty of reading. BTW, The Firing Line is no longer an active site, but its founder, Rich Lucibella, kindly left it up as an archive of an awful lot of useful firearms knowledge.

Three main methods exist for getting rid of those dimples. . . Some folks drill 'em out; others grind them off with a Dremel and grinding wheel; others push them out with a socket. Whichever way you go, make sure you polish well afterwards, and be sure that your follower easily bypasses that part of the magazine. Within a few minutes, you can have a mag extension operating perfectly well on a current 870.

After you've completed the operation, write Remington and letter and "thank" them for the extra trouble they've put you to.

yea i was a member of TFL but was never aware of this problem because i never owned a newer 870...

ill check it out...thanks

Dimple removal is a snap.
Please, and I'm beggin' ya, write Remington and tell them you are ticked off about this. I have done this several times now and they will outright lie to you and say it is not a PC move. Then you can ask why the LE guns do not come with the stupid dimples and trigger lock. Then you can ask why it is so difficult, as a non police officer, to buy new extensions from Remington and they will lie again.
In fact, we are getting reports that the non-LE 870's have been changed again and that some accessories such as the Wilson sling mount will not even fit between the barrel and mag tube with more mods. This would also mean that the factory mag extension clamps would also not work although I've yet to see this.
Please please please write them. They make it easy. Just go to http://www.remington.com/ and find a contact link.
I do this every time I buy another used 870 and tell them why I bought used instead of PC new. It could help, maybe.
Mike
