Hello all! I recently switched the wood furniture of my 870 Police over to polymer furniture. I got the Remington made factory polymer stock set meant for the 870 Police. I have a question though, it came with the sling stud for the buttstock separate. It had a hole in the stock already so I just screwed the sling stud in with my hands and a used a cheater bar to tighten it down all the way.

Is this the correct installation of the sling stud? I assumed the stud was "self tapping" and did not use a drill. Will it come out?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, buttstock swivels invariably use a "wood screw" type stud, regardless of whether the stock is wood or polymer. You are lucky that the hole was pre-drilled. The only caveat is not to over-tighten and strip out the hole.

A more interesting question is what you are going to use for the front stud. On my 870 Police, I am using a Choate magazine extension. I decided to drill and tap the larger-diameter portion at the base of the extension for the front stud. Or, you could use a clamp at the front of the magazine extension, with a swivel stud doubling as the clamping screw. If you don't use a magazine extension, Uncle Mike's makes a replacement magazine cap that already has the swivel in the center.

It came with a magazine cap that has a stud in the center, but I have since added a Remington +2 extension with the stud on the support bracket:

Yup, I usually use an old Allen wrench or scratch awl, whichever is closer......it shouldn't come out.

Thanks! I mean it appears that's what one is supposed to do, but I didn't know if I was missing some step or trick. I don't want it to fail me.

The gun looks good! (It's just like mine, except that mine has the wood furniture -- I'm a traditionalist.)

Actually I have two Remington 870's like this, one with rifle sights like yours, and the other with a bead sight and heat shield. I'm not sure how useful rifle sights are on a short-range defensive gun.

These Remingtons can really benefit from two improvements -- a high-visibility magazine follower, and a large-button safety. The standard safety is easy to fumble.
