I have a 12ga Remington 870 Express Turkey Magnum (2 3/4 & 3 inch) that kicks the livin’ crap outa me, even with target loads. The factory recoil pad is about as soft as a brick. So, does anyone offer a pre-fit modern recoil pad that I can switch out and be done with? Thanks…

I have a pre-fit limbsaver on mine. Remington makes the supercell. I believe that Pachmayr and Kick-eez both make prefit pads also.

Light target loads should not be a problem recoil wise in an 870. Put a few hundred rounds through it to get used to it and before long you will not notice the recoil.

In the meantime get a better recoil pad for when you start shooting the heavier loads. I can highly recommend Limbsaver, although others may work just as well.

Make sure you are holding it tight to your shoulder and lean into it. Then it will push you rather than kick you.

Definitely get either limbsaver or kick-ezz pad. (I love the kick-ezz myself). I don't know if they make one that is pre-fit for and express 870, but if not either do it yourself (not really all that hard) or have someone do it for you (probably a $30 job). It WILL make a world of difference. I have an 870 with the brick hard pad also and couldn't believe how bad it was. Now, I can easily shoot a 100 rounds of trap with my 870 without a problem. Of course I'm using light target loads as well.

Does your shotgun fit you properly? A shotgun that doesn't fit you will beat you up. I thought this was a load of it until I cut my stock down 1/2 inch and I can now fire my shotgun with the heaviest slugs that I can fit in it and it doesn't bother me. Go ahead and get a good recoil pad, but look at how the shotgun fits you as well.
