A while ago I purchased a synthetic stock/forearm for my 870. I know I need the forearm wrench, but I am having trouble with my stock bolt. The bolt thats already on it is maybe 9" while the one needed for my plastic stock needs to be about 6".

Is there anywhere I could find this bolt? I have searched everywhere but noone has one:)confused: :cuss: ). The set is Butler Creek, and I cannot find their website.

I would guess that it's a standard bolt/thred of some kind. I'd just go to a hardware store and match the threds, then get the length. You could use reddy rod or washer it if all else failed. I'm sure that you could get the right one from Brownells if you really want a factory part.

Good Luck!

It isn't a standard bolt, but it is a standard thread. The Remington plastic stock bolt is shorter than the one for wood stocks. You may see it that fits.

Check out online stores that specifically sell screw products. You can get pretty much anything from standard UNF and UNC to oddballs like UNJF and ACME in various sizes and configurations. I've purchased oddball sized things like class 3 #5-40 threaded cap screws before.

You probably can't buy just one, but with a small box, you can resell them on forums to people stuck in similar positions like yourself.

An alternative is jamming two nuts together on one end of a length of standard threaded rod. I can get a 3' length of threaded rod from the hardware store for a couple bucks. Works in a pinch for making "universal" length bolts.

IF you can't locate a bolt. . . or don't accept pcf's commendable offer, you can pick up a 1/4" x 10" (or 12") piece of cold rolled steel and thread one end for 1/4" x 28 threads (receiver end) and the other for 1/4" x 24 thread and put a flat washer, then a locking nut on the recoil pad end of the stock.

Doing this, you can custom-make a stock bolt for your 870.

Use either a nylock nut or standard nut and BLUE Locktite. The nut I used was a nylock nut.

I did this when I cut the 'beater stock' that I put on my son's 870 Youth Express, because even the 'youth' stock was too long.
