I have an 870HD. I recently sold off my plastic stock and foregrip and bought an old 870 Police wood set from a guy here on THR.
I refinished the wood because it was pretty beat up, and I just finished today. I was so proud.
I mounted the foregrip...perfection. I pop on the recoil plate and the wood stock, screw in the stock bolt until it stops... but the stock is still loose!!! If I point the gun upward, the stock can actually slide down on the stock bolt and only gets caught by washer when it is about 1.5" off the back of the receiver.
What gives? Are there different stock bolt sizes for the wood stocks? I would have thought the bolt from my plastic stock would be interchangeable.

And yes, before anyone asks, it's the original washer, and it is contacting the wood right where the hole begins where it ought to.
I'll call up remington in the morning and find out if they have a different sized bolt, but if someone here has an answer first, that would be fantastic.

Yes, there are different lengths of stock bolt to go with different makes/manufacturers of stocks. Nowadays I only buy a used stock set if the original stock bolt is included, because I got tired of hassling with the whole thing. It can be a pain.

Just stack a bunch of flat washers of the correct size and slide them onto the bolt before inserting the bolt into the stock. The washers will take up the excess space.

I called up Remington this morning to ask. The woman told me they are 2" different depending on wood or plastic. She took my name and address, and told me that the correct bolt for my gun is on the way. Free of charge. Gotta love Remington. Now THAT is customer service. She didn't even ask if I bought the gun used, and I even told her that I'd bought the wood stock used.

Not to turn it into a flame war here, but this is why you buy the original, made here in the good ole' US of A. not to say that a company that imports decent quality copies from China wouldn't support the customer, but remington really jumped at the opportunity to do so. They have my loyalty.

Makes me proud to be an 870 fan. And a 700 fan. And an 1100/11-87 fan. and a.........well you get the point.

Congrats on getting your problem solved so easily. :D
