You establish a sight line along the center top line of your reciever. The Bead of your sight will be sort of hovering just above your reciever's metal top. I dont know if you have a factory groove the length of your reciever but when the beat is center and along that line, you are more or less on target.
You can always get a Ghost SIght? A rail installed onto a reciever using a dot sight, mount a laser emitter somewhere on the gun and have it boresighted or put a aimdot or other scope on top of your shot gun with sufficient eye distance so you dont cut your face eating it during the recoil.

Shotguns are typically pointed, not aimed. If you want to "aim" your shotgun, you should probably get a set of both front and rear sights. Some folks like rifle style sights, like some ghost ring.
But for home defense, if you put the money you would spend on sights towards some practice ammo and range time to get used to the pointing idea, you may find that you are faster and just as accurate for the ranges you have in mind.

I'd have to say if you're going to stick with the stock sights, Hungry Seagull's right on the money when it comes to sighting it. It can work and depending on your use; even a standard bead and groove setup can be quite accurate with a little practice.
If you want something with a little more substance, I recommend a set of GRS (Ghost Ring Sights). Be warned though, they can get just as pricey to install after market as a Red Dot or Magnified Optics. To get an idea of prices, check Midway Usa or other gun parts suppliers for Trijicon(R), Scattergun Technologies(R) and XS(R) Ghost Ring Rears. The rear ring and gun smith installed drilling, tapping and zeroing should give you "Carbine Like" accuracy within 50 meters for a couple of hundred bucks.

I agree with Hungery Seagull also and am very confortable . But I have no sight groove on the barrel or receiver. There are four mount screws set in the receeiver that makes me think some kind of rear sight might be available. If I was a little more tach savey I'd post a photo of teh 12 ga.
