8x57 Mauser

Do any manufacturers currently produce a rifle in this caliber? I know Remington put out a 700 BDL in 8mm Mauser in 2004, but I haven't been able to find anything else. I've got a Yugo M48 and have fell in love with the cartridge, but would like to find another rifle that I can more easily mount a scope on to use for hunting and paper punching.

i've seen some recent-production doubles, and i think cz has a bolt in production.

you could have a 'smith drill & tap your receiver (or a donor receiver) for about $50, put a set of talleys on ($35), and then you're ready to scope what you already have...

if you want to keep the military stock, it won't be comfy to shoot w/ the scope because of the excessive drop at the comb, so call boyd's and get a sporter stock ($80) or just deal w/ the military stock.

Another way to go:

DRW--Dakotasin is right on on the stock--My M-48 wears its Boyd's stock very nicely thank you. (BTW, get the non-varnished one, then glass-bed it and varnish it yrself. Putzy, but if I can do it anyone can.)

Now, for a 'scope for an M-48: I went with a B-Square scout 'scope mount which works very well. Spent the bucks and got the Leupold scout 'scope, which is very nice. There isn't much choice in scout 'scopes (eye relief is different from that of a pistol 'scope; you have to get a dedicated scout 'scope) I think Burris is the only other maker besides Leupold.

Anyhow, mine can keep my handloads inside of 3" at 200 yd, benched. Mebbe it'll be capable of even better with an improved load, and if I practice more. I use 200 grain Accubonds; am considering switching to 200 grain Barnes TSX's, for big pigs.

IMHO, no need to look any further for a good 8mm than the M-48, if what you want is a good shooter.
