just worked up load in 9-mm auto with unique ,but have not tried it yet , i have alot of unique ,but powder situation bieng as it is ,sportsmens warehouse has alot of hodgens longshot ,and nothing else. iam using 115 gr. lead bullets has anybody used longshot in 9-mm ?and is it better with 9-mm and lead bullets compared to unique ,i know the longshot would meter better

I tried both Unique and Longshot before I settled on W231 for my Ruger P89. LS an U were both pretty good, just didn't get the results from them that I wanted.

I found the Unique dirtier, accuracy ok. LS had a snappier recoil and not quite as accurate as W231 in MY gun. Your mileage will vary.

In 9mm Longshot is a slower burning powder than 231 or Unique. Longshot will not reduce well, and is actually a very good high velocity powder in this application and will load to +P performance. I don't know how it does with lead though. I use it for my stout 38 spcl, 9mm, and .40 jacketed loads, it really gets them out there, just love the way it performs in my handguns.

I like Longshot in the 9mm but not with lead bullets. For lead bullets I use either W231 or HS-6 instead. Both deliver very good results.

I just loaded 45 ACP with 7 gr of LS using a 210 gr plated SWC bullet. This is the starting load and was very accurate in my Gold Cup.

Whether Longshot works or not is gonna depend on your gun.

One gun may hate it, while another loves it.

Case in point...
I have two 9mm guns.
One hates 115 gr (any shape), but feeds & fires 124-125 gr without a hiccup.
Lead, plated, jacketed, doesn't matter.

The other one hates lead bullets, but is great with either 115 or 124/125 gr. plated or jacketed.

The only way to be sure, is to try it.

I have used Longshot in the 9mm and it's great with lead at the top end. I used the jacketed data for the 124 gr bullet with the Lee 120 gr cast lead and got 1240 fps out of my BHP with target level accuracy. Same with 147 cast and 147 data again, 1010 fps and excellent accuracy. I no longer have any 9's but at the time had 3 and about 99% of my shooting was lead. With all 3 guns I got excellent accuracy with lead at max jacketed velocities with LS. I never loaded it down, there are all kinds of powders for light lead loads. Longshot IMO is a great powder for max loads.

Actually, I just shot my first 115gr LRN loads with Longshot a few hours ago. I loaded 100 with 5 grains and 100 with 5.5. My normal 9mm load is 3.3 of Clays.

It definitely packed some more punch than my Clays load, which I was expecting based on the velocities in my manual. Accuracy was mediocre out of my 4" XD9, at 25 yards, I was having trouble figuring out where my POI actually was. It changed a bunch from my Clays load, problem was consitency, seemed about 9-12" higher, but after 3-4 shots, I'd have a couple low, than a lateral flyer. I think even the 5 grain load (published minimum) was a bit hot for the lead boolits. It was launching brass 15-20 feet to between 4 and 5 O'clock. No signs of pressure on the brass, but even my +P SD loads don't fling brass like that.

My Sig 938 (3" barrel) liked it more, though still ha accuracy issues. Again, it was launching brass much harder than even with +P. It usually puts my brass 5ft away at 3 O'clock, it was hitting the awning above the bench hard.

Both guns normally run great with 115gr LRN boolits, some of the accuracy is probably my fault, I wasn't shooting especially well today, but there's something off with the load too IMHO.

Shot 197 rounds, saved 3 to shoot at work on my chrony, so we'll see what kind of velocity I'm actually getting out of it as soon as the parts for my breech come in. My gut feeling is that it's on the upper end of what my 115gr MBC boolits are capable of. I have a bunch of Hornady 115gr JHP that I'm going to try. Otherwise, I think I'm going to shelve the remaining powder until I use up my Clays and MBC lead bullets and try some plated 115s or 124s.
