Hmmm...

I see two purposes:

1) Can ship without an FFL and some guys don't know how to get a C&R. No, I don't know how to easily make a receiver for a MN.

2) fixing up all those ugly sporterized rifles with a proper barrel and stock! :neener:

#1 worry: is the ATF banning importation of more MN rifles for some idiot reason, so they cut up the receiver?

I've seen a few barrels with cut receivers, for god knows what reason. Rusted out, headspace messed up too much, shipper just doesn't want to deal with the same paperwork.

My question is, what do they expect you to do with that barrel with the chunk of receiver still attached. I've had the joy of helping a friend attempt a rebarrel on a shot-out one, and couldn't get the thing apart for love or money--or a good vice and my 280-pound friend on the other end of a four-foot cheater bar.

That's hilarious. That's the price of a C&R plus a Mosin. I guess the C&R license isn't as well-publicized as it should be.

I can't imagine a more innocuous firearm than a Mosin (except for the evil bayonet of course), and the news would be all over the web if the ATF were blocking Mosin imports.

I think a more logical explanation is that someone is breaking down Mosins for parts, and then selling the parts kits and stripped recievers separately (both at significant markup of course). I actually ran across a site the other day that was selling stripped Mosin recievers for $20 or so.
