I have a nice walnut stock on a 98 mauser action in 243. I want to dress up the stock by adding a rosewood grip cap and forend while i have the stock stripped down.

Questions: Where can i buy the rosewood? What are some options for an accent "layer" between the stock and forend (not sure what proper name for this is). I have searched everywhere and i cant find where to buy these items. Thanks.

I am fortunate to have a Hardwood supply company 5 miles from my house.
When I get a chance to go in there, I pick up different types of wood that they have in stock that are about 2x2 x 12" long.
I find sometimes Rosewood and other exotic woods like Ebony or Cobolo that I use for nose caps , grip caps and knife handles.
But I also keep my eyes open for landscapers trimming trees in my area.
When they are cutting large branches off trees, or cutting up trees that blow over in one of our wind storm "micro Bursts " I take the logs home and cut it into blocks for future use when it has dried out.
We have lots of Mesquite and Ironwood trees here, and they make great looking nose caps.
But dont ignore the Root Wood from those downed trees.
Some of it is very nice colors and grain.
Heck for lighter colored spacers , I have used some Jacaranda wood from the tree in my front yard.
