I just bought a sample pack of 147gr lead bullets. The only powder In have is WIN 231. Hodgdon and Lyman don't have any data using Win 231, and the data from me Lee manual is 3.3-3.5gr. This seems a little light. Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

Yup, W231 is a little fast for that heavy bullet. Time to experiment and buy a new powder. Try Unique, N340, WSF, Power Pistol, HS-6, or even some No.7.

I use 3.6grs under a XTP @ 1.100". This is the same load I used to try to wear out two 9mm cases.

Which bullet do you have?

Missouri Bullets offers 9mm 147 gr FP (SubSonic) in 15 BHN compared to the harder 18 BHN for their other 9mm bullets.

With softer alloy mix that will better obturate at lower pressures, we may need to rework the published 147 gr loads tested with harder cast bullets (say 21-24 BHN?). My guess is that the softer 15 BHN bullets may obturate and perform well even at start-mid range load data.

I would try the 3.3- 3.5 gr loads of W231 and see how they shoot.

Keep us posted with a range report. I usually prefer 125 gr lead bullets for 9mm, but you got me interested.

They're from Slash K in Tucson http://slashk.org/9mm147grtc.aspx

I'd be happy if the Lee data works, then I could probably use the dipper I got for it. So far dippers, 9mm and Win 231 haven't worked well.

That 3.3 - 3.5 is correct. I've tried them and they will cycle, It's a nice little mousefart load. I've been using WSF for most of my 147g from MBC.

Just be careful, pressure can build up quickly in those small 9mm cases

Loaded up about 15 tonight at 1.150 OAL and 3.2gr Win 231. I'll see how they shoot in a few days.
