Does a 9mm AR15 use a standard AR lower? Or, can I get a 9mm upper and put it on a standard lower and have a 9mm AR15? If so, how do the mags fit? I've never looked at a 9mm AR but it seems like something cool to have it it just takes an upper. Thanks.

You will need a magazine adapter block to use colt ar 15 9mm mags. Also on most lowers you will have to change out the hammer. An M16 hammer with the hook ground off will work.

Olympic Arms has a 9MM upper which will fit onto your existing lower. They also have modified sten mags that will fit into the existing magwell without any modifications to your lower. They can also be modified to take Beretta and other magazines as well.

I had one for awhile but gave it up when I got rid of my 9MM handguns.

9mm Uppers on ARs can be a lot of fun and a big plus since you can also shoot them at indoor ranges that are restricted to hangun calibers. Mine is on a Colt pattern made by Rock River and uses slightly modified (notched) UZI mags. Almost traded her but decided not to at the last minute. :D I'm glad I didn't!

You can always switch back to .223, but lowers are relatively inexpensive so I don't see any reason to not get a "dedicated" lower. Plus when you get the mag block adjusted just right you really don't want to mess with it.

Good Shooting
