Howdy, folks. I was thinking today about getting an AR. My question for you is if I get a standard lower with the 6 point collapsable stock, would I be able to put a .458 upper, 9mm upper, and .308 upper on without having to modify the lower receiver?

And what about these .50 BMG uppers? I don't see how they can fit on a standard lower receiver.

Educate me. I am a Phillistene.

No. The .308 ARs have a different size, well everything because .308 is longer than the standard .223 magwell. I know 9mm will fit in a .223 lower and I'm pretty sure the big thumpers like .458 are used in the gun to make up for the short magwell (ie, limitation longer calibers)

Oh, and the reason the .50BMG uppers work on the .223 lowers is because its a single shot. The firing part only uses the trigger and stock/receiver as a brace for the main gun.

I too was looking into this...I have an AR lower and wanted to get a .458 SOCOM upper. Mine has the collapsable stock, and I was told by the manufacturer of the .458 SOCOM upper that I was looking at that they had not tested it with anything other than a fixed stock, and that they could not guarantee that a collasable stock could withstand the recoil of the .458. .308 won't work. 9mm will. Not sure about the .50 BMG.

What about adding tacticool handguards on the RRA .458? I've seen a lot of those AR's that have the target-looking handguards. Can I throw on tacticool handguards on any of those rifles?
