9mm Carbine

Good Evening,

It looks like my next reloading project will be getting under way soon.

I should be getting a Hi-Point 995TS. It looks like a fun plinker.

I've got some good 124 grain fmj loads with Power Pistol and Titegroup. I also loaded some Bullseye but haven't shot them yet.

I've been reading that the lighter bullets experience the most gain from the longer barrel of a carbine so I bought some AA#7 and some 115 grain Montana Gold bullets.

From my reading it seems that AA#7 is o.k., if a bit slow, for pistols and good for carbines in 9mm.

Anyone with experience or ideas is welcome to comment and I'll try to let you guys know how I'm coming along.

A slightly slower powder over a longer burn (barrel length) should give you a higher velocity.

That said, I have found a number of 9 Carbine loads, by googling for them, just make sure you aren't going over tested MAX loads.

Power Pistol and AA #7 should do very well in 9MM as far as velocity goes.

The slowest powders I have used in 9MM are HS-6 & 3N37 with 115 & 124/5 Gr bullets. They gave the most velocity as well. With 124/5 Gr bullets, N340 gets real close to top velocities in 16" barrels, but is better than both in 3" barrels. I really like it for an overall powder with 124/5 Gr stuff. Uses less powder than 3N37.

9MM carbines are fun. I also have a 16" AR and Kel-Tec Sub 2000 in 9MM.

blue dot works well... I have worked up a 1650fps 124gr load and a 2090fps 90gr load for my sub2k.

Hello All,

I got to the range to test some of my ideas. I shot my new Hi-Point 995TS carbine (16" barrel) and my Firestorm mini-9 (3.25" barrel) with the same loads. I shot some 115 grain and some 124 grain fmj's with a variety of powders.

Titegroup and Power Pistol seemed to perform the best for me. I had hoped AA # 7 would be ideal for the carbine and o.k. for the handgun but it didn't seem to work as well as the other two in either platform. A near max AA #7 did get good velocity out of the carbine but showed pressure signs in the handgun. A mid-range AA #7 charge did o.k. but nothing special. A near max Power Pistol load showed good velocity and accuracy but did have some good muzzle flash out of the handgun as I was shooting in failing light in the afternoon. Titegroup was good in the carbine and handgun.

The 115 grain bullets showed a 250 - 300 fps gain in the longer barrel while the 124 grainers showed just under a 200 fps. gain.

I learned a lot, had fun, and stayed safe. I'll load up some "production" Power Pistol and Titegroup loads and keep experimenting with AA #7.
