9mm Conversion Question

I have an early model Kimber Classic Combat in .45. I have found a .38 Super conversion kit. If I get this conversion, I could order a 9mm barrel and spring and have 3 guns in one.

My question is, how hard is it to change the ejector out when converting from .45 to the smaller calibers?

My other option is to buy a new Colt 1911 XSE in .38 Super and order a 9mm barrel. I would have about $1,000.00 in a pistol that can shoot 2 different calibers. If I go this option I would prefer a Colt, mainly for resale value.

Most 1911 pattern ejectors are retained by a small tight pin running side to side under the frame rails. Takes a skinny punch to R&R it.
SOME 1911 pattern ejectors - Springfield mostly, but I would not bet against Kimber - are now being glued in and are not readily changeable.

People will point out to you that when the gun is assembled, the ejector is retained by the slide and cannot fall out even if not pinned or glued. Not something I have done. If you just must change calibers every weekend, that might be something to try. The only fault I can find is that ejection patterns might be even more erratic than usual for 1911 due to slop in the fit. And of course the risk of parts loss if you strip the gun in rough conditions.
