I think it should work as long as it doesn't reduce the mouth diameter too much to head space off the chamber ridge thingy. Can't remeber what that ridge is termed as being? Another old age thing I guess.
I just did 50 .38 special this afternoon. What is so hard about a light crimp over the cannelure of your bullet, unless you are using a bullet without. Maybe I just answered my own question as I have a pile of 158 grain Keith style bullets. A nice light crimp and good to go.
In twenty years of loading .38 Special, I have never needed more than the light crimp the Lee .38 seater die gives me. Never had setback, using a wide variety of bullets and cases.
