Going to the range later this week and burn some 115 grain Federal Champion 9MM. Is the brass worth saving? I know this is Federal's budget ammo line.

Yes, I have a couple thousand of them the they work fine. I've never had any trouble with them. I use RCBS carbide loading dies and that may be why.
I get excellent neck tension from .FC., .FC , FC and any other brass Federal makes.
The only Federal brass I chuck is the FC-NT brass because the NT stands for Non Toxic primer and the flash hole is twice the size of all the other Federal 9mm brass.

If your using Lee dies you may or may not have neck tension problems with them. But Lee does make an undersized sizing die for 9mm so you could still use them and many other brands as well.
Their cheap brass is as good as any other brand of cheap target brass.

They seem to work well for me using 20 year old Lee 9MM dies. The only ones I don't bother with are steel or if they have the step inside. Those all get recycled as required. I am not aware that they are making steel cased ammo at Federal yet.

Is there enough wiggle room in SAAMI specs to produce inferior brass Where does the differences come in, brass quality, exterior dimensions are pretty close tolerance. General question I’ve no idea myself.
