Fiocchi 147 gr XTP fired from G22 with Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel through four layers of denim into calibrated 10% gelatin.

BB: 592.8 fps, 3.6"

Impact velocity: 957.1 fps
Penetration: 14" of gel, one 6" water jug
Retained weight: 147.0 gr
Max expansion: 0.460"
Min expansion: 0.365"

I have changed up my format quite a lot over the last few videos and I'm interested to hear what elements you like best. Which camera angles and segments are most entertaining or useful to you? What should I change and what should I keep the same?

Wicked looking chunk of metal! Your opinion compared to Win 147g Ranger T? as in price?
Win is what I have carried for years, since the Black Talon days.

If I understand the results correctly this thing zipped completely through a 14" block of gelatin, and out the back of a 6" diameter water jug, and only expanded to .460" diameter.

In my opinion that is pretty poor performance - doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Ranger "T" or HST.

I bet it kills bad guys or critters just as dead.

I personally am a fan of the XTP bullets. Not so much the 147s though. 124 is the sweet spot IMO.

It dented the back of the 6" jug but stayed inside. My entirely unscientific but very slightly educated guess is that would be around 17" of gelatin.

I don't think it's terrible performance at all, if your priority is on penetration and/or barrier performance. Good woods load if you carry a 9mm.

The performance of the 9mm is fine, with most of the rounds quoted, I will stay with my Ranger 147g.

Brit SAS used hardball in Belfast, through and through! They had no problems, seems like location, as in Real Estate was the key.

We modern day carriers of pistols, here in the Free State of Florida have choices.

My original carry load was 127g +P+ Win. But the recoil was much more than the 147g non plusP, getting back on target, noticeably longer.

Too each his own?

The way I see it,
Federal HST, Winchester Ranger and Speer Gold Dots are at the top of the pack here.
Hollow-point ammunition -IS- an exact science and its taken the best ammunition manufacturers in the world, something like three decades of on-the-street OIS experience to come up with the spectacular, consistent, reliably-expanding loads that LE have available to them today.

As I see it, the performance difference between the new loads and foreign manufacturers hollow points, or even domestic manufacturers older designs and the new ones, is absolutely gigantic.

Hence the unacceptable performance of the Fiocchi round. I've seen similarly disappointing results from most other hollow points. They look pretty in the cartridge, but they don't look so pretty after being fired.

I'd rather use 147gr Winchester White Box than Fiocchi 147gr XTP.

It's important to note that the Hornady XTP is intended to yield modest expansion and deep penetration. This load worked about as you would expect and would make a great choice for a woods load if you carry s 9mm in the sticks.

The difference in wound channel between 124 gr +p HST and any old FMJ isn't that great. We choose the best ammo to have the best chance but shot placement is 95% of the issue bullet design matters, but only a little, so long as it penetrates adequately.

I like your tests and check out each one. The only change I would like is at least an 18" gel block plus jug, that way we know an exit is over-penetration. With just 14" we can't be sure if it would over-penetrate per FBI protocols or not.

Wouldn't she be happier if you had a separate beer and gel block fridge? I lucked out, my wife likes beer and I brew beer so that's how I was able to put a 3 tap keezer in the dining room. :D
