I recently purchased the S.A. Range Officer Operator and am making a few mods to it for duty carry. I plan on replacing the long trigger or a short one, grips (wouldn't want to mess up the wood grips), sights and possibly the MSH (flat to arched).

I have never been a fan of the six o'clock hold and utilize POA/POI on my other handguns. So a series of questions for ya'll.

1: Do sight sets come pre-regulated for 9mm or are they set up for .45, or does it even matter?

2: The current front sight appears to be .185-.190 in height, and I have gotten readings in between with my calipers. I want to adjust the front sight but don't want too tall of a sight. Suggestions?

3: I am debating between the XS standard dot front/rear or an adjustable rear and tritium front. Thoughts?

Feel free to comment on some or all of these questions.

Yes, I have put 300 rounds through it since Wednesday. It groups quite well, easily making head shots. However, it shoots left (can't get my finger completely to the trigger face properly) and it shoots high because of the six o'clock hold, so I have to aim at the neck/chin area to hit the crown of the head.

At what range? Springfield can probably tell you what range they expect it to hit POA/POI. If it is not close to what there specs call for they should correct it. They've always been easy to deal with. As for changing the sights, there is an easy formula to calculate the change in height. Just need to know the sight radius, range to target, and deviation from PIA to POI.

Dawson Precision has a sight calculator on their web site that works well. You input data about front sight height, range and desired impact movement. It then tells you what new sight height will put you on the money. They also have the sights to complete the job with.

To lower point of impact, try a lighter bullet. For instance, if you are shooting 147 grain bullets, try a 90 grain projectile.

It's within S.A. specs, as they design it to come from the factory with the six o'clock hold. I was using Perfecta 115 grain rounds.

I am most interested in changing the sights because it is a 2 dot rear, fiber optic front. I want to change over to night sights anyway.

Dawson has the Perfect Impact policy. They will replace a sight if necessary to get you on target.

You can send your gun to Novak and they will sight it in.

You will probably have to speak sternly to them to impress them with your wish for a center hold. Six o'clock or "drive the dot" are the usual choices.
