i would like to know what the diameter is of both bullets after expansion. both need to be hollow point, and both need to be of the same bullet type, like two jacketed hollowpoint rounds from the same manufacturer (such as federal) and the bullets needs to be the SAME. (exception is caliber of course, but you get my point.)
has any tests been done to see what the size and time of expansion is and whatnot?
all i need is, Bullet manufacturer, grains, bullet type,ect.. and the average diameter of the expansion afterwards and the amount of time that it took for expansion.
just a fair, equal test of both rounds is needed.
i really hope I was able to get that message across, because it is kinda hard to word it right.
thanks!

Nothin? tough crowd, you guys are.

I think I know what you are asking.

I have two sources of information. I need to confess being a .45 nut for years and years BUT, and here is where my education begins;

The med examiner in our State and the State bullistics expert both swear the new 9mm HP rounds give better expansion than either the .40 or .45 due to the higher feet per second for the 9mm. Both tell me the 9mm will expand past .40 cal in diameter.

BOTH tell me the 40 is over rated and not as good a killer as the hot 9mm hp stuff.

BOTH are (were) hard headed 45 men. Neither carry a 45 now.

Having said all this, the point is the new HP stuff changes everything known about expansion.

Pointless info, IMO.

Modern JHPs are usually fully expanded within 2-inches of penetration. Time to max expansion? How long does it take a bullet traveling XXXX fps to travel 2-inches?

What barrier materials will the bullet negotiate (clothing, four layers heavy denim cloth, windshield glass, automotive sheetmetal, etc.)?

Modern JHPs expand approximately 1.5 - 1.8 times unfired diameter in bare ordnance gelatin (best case conditions for bullet expansion).

I think there is a greater difference in marksmanship even on the same police force with the same training than in caliber. Some local PDs have found that their officers hit more often with the 9mm, some prefer the 40 or 45 all choices based on street results. Max expansion is not the only issue in a gunfight. I suspect that most major brands of LE ammo have similar penetration and expansion regardless of caliber. The design parameters of the bullet need to be balanced with the velocity.

The old Speer 200gr "flying ashtray"(.452") was capable of expanding to one inch in diameter at velocities around 1100 fps.

Don't know if this is in one of the links provided above but it shows everything you are asking about...

The SIG bullets at left are not desinged for 9mm/19 velocities.
