Ok, so I had loaded some 9mm 115 JHP's a couple years ago for a sig P250 my wife had. She didnt like it so I got rid of it. Just bought her a XD9 SC.

loaded as follows;
115 Gr Horn XTP 5.2 grains W231 @ 1.050
115 Gr Sierra JHP 5.2 grains W231 @ 1.015

My concern is that the old Hornandy manual i had showed 5.5 max as did the Sierra 3rd edition, but the new Hornady shows 4.7 Max. I am not sure what the current Sierra manual has.

Any opinions on this load? Shoot them, Pull them? I never CHrono'd them, but I did chron the same bullets at 5.0 231 and got AVG 1119 from the Sierras and 1110 from the Hornandy

Hodgon load data says 5.1 is max for 115gr jhp with 231. Close enough in my opinion. For the future I would drop it a little.
If they are self defense rounds and you want max velocity there are other slower powders out there. For just shooting at the range I would drop it a bit and have fun without any worries. I would not pull what you loaded already though.

Edit: I like using load data from powder manufacturers.

I wouldn't set you wife loose with them. They may make her decide she doesn't like the XD either.

So far she has shot a couple hundred rounds of Winchester White box, and PMC..she likes it so far. Her complaint about the P250 was the long trigger

Hornady #8 shows a range of 4.1 gr to max of 4.7 gr for their 115 gr XTP with Win 231. How old is that manual??

I can not say for you to shoot them or not. How many do you have?

For the xtp's you are over the current Max load and shorter than the given OAL.1.075)

Based on that, it's your call;);)

Went ahead and chronod a few, both loads averaged about 1150FPS from the 3" XDsc. Primers showed just a hint of flattening.
I will load the next batch lighter, but I think these are ok.

It depends on how much you like the XD yourself. :) If you want it for yourself, let the wife shoot and she might let you have the pistol... but that's a hot load.

I've loaded 4.7 grains of 231 under most 115 grain jacketed bullets and it performs well. It's not light either.

Ha, being as she shoots my 454 casull, i find it highly unlikly any 9mm load is going to intimidate her....She actually shot the 5.2 load today , and was fine with it

I use a lot of WIN 231 for 9mm & other calibers for lead & plated bullets, with my usual loads for 9mm 125 SNS cast RNL, with 3.9 gr. Win 231 @ 1.125" OAL and for Berry's 124 gr plated RN, with 4.3 gr Win 231 @ 1.135" OAL. For FMJ or JHP bullets I prefer using PowerPistol. LM
