I went component shopping today and was only able to find small pistol magnum primers. The guy at the store said it would be fine and suggested a 10% load reduction to compensate for the primers, but that is kinda vague. The powder I have is Bullseye and the reloading manuals (LEE and Lyman) show the starting load and max as 5 grains. Not much room to play with. Has anyone made a load using these components?

Oh the bullet is a 115gr FMJ.

You should always reduce a MAX load shown in data by 10% for a starting load and work up. That's regardless of what primer you have.

90% of 5.0 is 4.5 grains.
If 5.0 is MAX, that 4.5 right there is the starting load.

(LEE and Lyman) shows the starting load and max as 5 grains.
You must be reading it wrong.
Both Lyman #47 and #49 shows a 115 JHP & Bullseye as.
3.5 Start.
4.8 MAX.

I have the Lyman Pistol & Revolver 3rd. You are right the Lyman manual shows 3.5 to 4.8. Some how I over looked that. Thanks for the reply just the same, it made me double check.
