jell-dog was kind enough to PIF me some (well lots really) samples of 9mm bullets for testing. Big thanks to jell-dog :D
I wanted to post some results as well as chrono numbers from my new Competition Electronics Chrono with Digital link.
To start a couple of notes.
1. Getting old is a drag. Worked in yard Sat, shooting Sunday and my back was protesting Sat so it was not one of my better days.
2. In the 40s at the range chilly, and windy, normally much warmer here, the getting old thing again. (lots of people laughing and are calling 40 warm, other days 80 here by noon)
3. I debated between more powders and less charges or a ladder of one powder. My target vel was around 1030-1050 for the 124s. I missed it and was low on some of the bullets. More powder, or maybe a shorter OAL on some.
4. I loaded this ammo with charges as thrown from a Lee Pro Disk after checking the weight thrown a couple of times. I load outside in a shed and it was cold and damp the day I loaded. I don't know how much if any effect this had on the charges, normally pretty dry where I am at. (Hot in the summer to)
5. All ammo mixed range brass # of reloads unknown. S+B SP primers.
6. Some of the results probably don't deserve to be posted. I had lots more combos and did not post all of them. 500+ rounds that day.

All shot standing.

Really what I trying to say is I did not do the bullets justice and have some I am going to buy to test again to be fair.

Given all the above

And a re-test of the RMR 147 "Target HP"s
To be fair I should note that these were about the 4 and 5th target I shot after a couple of warm ups. All the other targets above were shot after doing all the chrono work.
I felt I should note this to be fair.

Merge.txt has chrono #s from quite a few 9mm loads I tested

Dudedog, thanks for your chrony results!

The only 147 gr. I have reloaded was MBC with CFE-P. That gives me something to compare with.

500+ rounds ain't too shabby of a day. And I'd like to see 40' day with little wind. :)

DD thanks for the effort, we learn a lot from your work. When you do this and specify a load used do you weight/check each powder drop for all 5?

Dudedog, Thanks for the comprehensive write up. You and jell-dog puts the rest us to shame with the extensive testing you do, and then sharing the good stuff with us.

I see you did your testing on 2/28 with a temperature of in the 40s. My last testing was also on 2/28, but with a temperature of low 80s. I'll be happy with 60s and 70s.

It seems the RMR target 124gr and 147gr bullets are very accurate for you. maybe you just need to load up a bunch of them and go competition shooting.

I can't comment much on the chrono data since most of the powders you use, I don't have. I think I should use the excuse that my shooting is not as good as Dudedog's since I am using the wrong powders.

Thanks for attaching all the chrono data. I see you commented:
HHmmmm about 50fps going from the 5" 1911 to the 3.5" XD Sub
That is about what I expect. I have been reading up a bit on difference in barrel length, especially with revolvers. Something that stuck with me was a comment that 35fps were lost for every 1" of barrel that was removed. If that is also true for pistols, then it seems you could have lost 52fps with the 1.5" shorter barrel.

So how is the new chrono working out?

Great job as always and thank for sharing.

Your welcome everybody.

No I don't weigh each charge.
I weigh a couple to make sure my Lee Pro Disk is throwing what I expect then charges are as thrown. (will probably be mostly using the auto drum in the future)
Two ways to look at it,
#1. Weigh each charge to get the most accurate results for the combo
#2. Load test rounds like I normally load to get a better idea of "real world" results for my loaded ammo
I go with number 2, but maybe on my favorites I should weigh each charge to see how much of a difference it makes.
I had some larger ES and SDs than normal, don't know if it was because some of the loads were light or possibly due to cooler damp weather when I loaded them. I have a "reloading" shed in the back yard and I have a little heater for it but it is not like being inside the house. Semi climate controlled....

Liking the new chrono. Testing this many combos would have been a nightmare if I had to write down all the results by hand.
It would sure be nice if the software had some kind of logging mode instead of making you have to export each string. ie auto export when the change string button is pushed. It also seemed to work with my "Free Chrono Light Kit"

Thanks everybody for you positive comments I really appreciate it and hopefully some things I post will be helpful to everybody.
I commented that jell-dog took much better pictures than I did. jell-dog pointed out that he scans the targets, major brain fart on my part scanning them never occurred to me. :banghead: Thanks JD!
So hopefully better pictures coming in the future.

Also I mentioned to jell-dog I had purchased a .380.
Well what arrives in my mailbox but a .380 care package with lots of nice clean 380 brass and 500 bullets to play with. :D :D
Wow
A big thanks to jell-dog for his kindness.

Of course this means a big 380 test....got to break in the pistol when I get it. :)

DudeDog, even the bad can be good. It can be a reference of where one might not want to go. Or maybe a confirmation if someone else tries it and gets the same result.

Really itching here to try and put information from these posts into action. Lately when I have free time it's been even worse than 40 and windy though. Tough to pull out the staple gun and some targets when I'm looking at a high of 18 with a wind chill making it -7.

To avoid thread hijaak can I PM a question about the shed?

No 21 is not terrible but the yuk was more for the ES around 60.
My main thought was if some of the charges were a tiny bit heavier that the ES and SDs might have tightened up.
Sorry forgot to mention the pistol :banghead: Springfield "Loaded" 1911 iin 9mm. 5" Barrel.

AnselHazen feel free to PM about the shed or anything else. (within reason of course :) )
