Hi I'v been reloading for several years now and often come to the forum just to browse but I finally have a problem and I'd appreciate some help. In the past I'v only reloaded .357 and .44 for Ruger revolvers and usually only with lead bullets. I recently began reloading 9mm for my Smith and Wesson 6906 and Im having a problem. I ordered some 125 grain RN (.356) from Missouri Bullet Company and I loaded come up but they wont feed. They will almost chamber, but not quite. They enter the chamber but the slide wont close completely. I dissembled the gun and tried to load it by putting the bullets into the barrel but once again they wont chamber completely. No its not the overall length I already checked. I was wondering what could have caused this and now I could go about fixing it? Thanks

Have you checked to see if the ogive of the bullet is contacting the Leade of the chamber? When you take the barrel out of the gun, and drop a loaded round in, or even a dummy round loaded to the same OAL, can you tell where it's stopping? If the rifling imprints the bullet, then it is an OAL issue.

If the brass is sized properly, which you can check by dropping a sized case into the chamber, then it's going to be a bullet issue. Just check one thing at a time until you find the source of the problem and then work to eliminate it.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Sounds like the sizing die isn't set quite right. If you don't have a case gauge to check the cartridge in, try pulling the barrel on the pistol and see if your rounds will chamber correctly by just dropping them in.

Looks like Fred beat me too it.

If none of the above helps it might be something very simple. When I first started reloading lead bullets for the 9mm I had a similar problem. I wasn't belling the case enough and the lead bullet was "shaving" when seated. The shaved lead made a slight "belt" around the top of the case causing the same problem. Luckily I saw the problem when I made the first 20 test rounds.

ditto,
If the lead bullets are spec .356" and the casemouth bell is not completely removed, the rounds will resist when being chambered, resulting in an action not going into complete lockup/battery.

I have a 5906 ,They have a short freeboard to the rifeling of the barrel.
I bet if you shortin up your coal length they will chamber. Your bulletts are hitting the rifeling ,Before the case rests on the chamber rim. There is a post down a little way ,That goes into detail about what you are experiancing.

I had the same problem with my xd, with that same bullet (MO bullet small ball 9mm )Adjust O.A.L. until round drops and spins free without touching rifling. My xd was 1.095. My Berretta can go all the way out to max length.

I've had additional 9mm issues from not using enough crimp. The tip of the case, right at the mouth, should measure somewhere around .377 - .378 dia.
