I' m running low on my 9mm loads and need to made some more

Problem is I've always used Hornady 124gr Flat Nose. None to be found and won't be any till sometime next year

X-treme is making a plated 124 Flat Nose. Are they the same profile and can I use the Hornady load data ? OAL in the Hornady book is 1.050 or do the X-treme run a little longer ?

May as well ask now. What charge and Power. I'm out of Unique and have the other 3 on hand. Looking for soft, more push than snap

HP 38 4.5
HS 6 6.5
Longshot 5.1

Thanks all

Bullet profiles can vary even lot to lot, so there's no way to know exactly the answer to your question. I don't know what you mean by "do the X-treme run a little longer?" Do you mean the bullets themselves? That really has little to do with the proper OAL.

All you can do is start from scratch with the new bullet. The "book" OAL is only a swag and is not intended to be hard and fast. The right OAL for any given bullet is that which barely passes the plunk test in your barrel (search for it on this site) and also fits into and feeds reliably from the magazine. Your starting load should be a lead 124-gr load + about 10%.

They are close enough that you can use the same OAL, but you should rework the load anyhow. I've been using the .38 versions at 1.050" with great success.

I have been using the xtreme 124 gr RN bullets and hornady reloading book as my primary loads. Xtreme makes a really nice product.

X-treme should be loaded to jacketed not lead specs according to there site.
Nothing over 1500 fps

I'm loading for 6 different guns and know my old loads at 1.050 will work in all of them

All load info I posted not even close to max

Thanks 918v and brue182. That is what I was looking for. I thought they were the same but not having them side by side I was questioning my judgment.

Have ether of you ever used Longshot or HS 6 in a 9 before ?

Just wondering how they perform

I used 4.7grs of LS under various 147s. I got decent accuracy. I did a work up with HS-6 but did not get good accuracy. Haven't tried either powder under lighter bullets. I suspect there is a velocity range where 9mm pistols are most accurate. I don't wanna go there with 147s. LS and HS-6 are too slow to work well with 124s at that velocity (1050 FPS).

OK, but it works out to the same thing as lead +10% in most cases.

Hodgdon website data for 125-gr bullet (close enough to 124):

HP-38 starting load for LCN is 3.9 grains; adding 10% gets you to 4.34. Your edit lists a load of 4.5 grains, just a .16 grain difference from my suggestion. Do you and your pistol have the ability to discern a .16 grain (3.6%) difference in 9mm Luger? I doubt it. It might prove just enough too light to reliably cycle your slide, but since proper procedure calls for loading just a few rounds for testing and workup, not much is lost even if it does prove too light. My bet is it would cycle your slide just fine.

HS-6 starting load for LCN is 5.9 grains; adding 10% gets you to 6.54. Your edit lists a load of 6.5 grains, just a .04 grain difference from my suggestion. Do you and your pistol have the ability to discern a .04 (.6%) grain difference? Not a chance. Your scale probably can't even measure it.

Longshot is an anomaly, with a listed load that's actually lower for FMJ than for lead. Starting load for LCN is 5.0 grains; adding 10% gets you to 5.5. Still, the load you listed in your edit, 5.1 grains, is just a .4 grain (7.8%) difference from my suggestion. That's enough to detect, but not enough to cause harm (Hodgdon max is 5.7 grains).

Yes, flare and seat the same as the old bullet you were using. Start at the bottom of jacketed data and work up.

I run the X-Treme HP @ 1.060 OAl at 1050ish FPS from a 5" 1911 using jacketed data. (3.9 Grs of N320 - Use at your own risk) It is soft shooting and very accurate. The brass just piles up just to the right of my feet. The bullet can take more, but this load shoots extremely well, feeds in my guns, is very clean, is soft shooting, and fun to shoot for an extended period.

W-231 should be able to do the same thing for you.
